The Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) provides graduates with advanced skills and knowledge to manage medium- to large-scale building projects across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. This nationally recognised qualification covers structural principles, project management, estimating and costing, contract administration, tendering, risk management, team leadership, and ensuring compliance with building codes, standards, and workplace health and safety requirements. This course is designed for experienced building and construction professionals who are seeking to move into senior supervisory, management, or builder roles. It prepares students to oversee building projects from planning through to delivery, coordinate subcontractors and resources, interpret and apply legislation, and implement effective business management practices in construction enterprises.
The qualification provides a recognised pathway to employment in senior roles across the domestic and commercial/industrial construction sectors and may also support applications for builder registration, subject to state and territory regulatory requirements.
CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) supersedes and is equivalent to CPC50210 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building).

In order to achieve this qualification, students must complete 27 units of competency, made up of 24 core units and 3 elective units.
Students must be at least 18 years of age at the time of enrolment, as this is a trade-level qualification designed for those entering supervisory or management roles in the construction industry.

Mature age applicants without formal education may be considered based on relevant work experience and demonstrated capacity to meet course requirements. Such learners will be accessed for possible RPL opportunities and their course duration and volume of learning will be adjusted accordingly, if any RPL is granted.
Students undertaking this course at CTA must possess sound Numeracy skills since it requires them to do calculations or any other course related work. To determine this, all students wanting to study with us are required to undertake the LLN Test prior to the commencement of the course. Based on the test outcome, students may be identified as requiring external support services.
The LLN test will be conducted on campus by using an ACSF mapped online LLN assessment tool - LLN Robot.
Students are asked to undertake a language, literacy and numeracy test (LLN) test and achieve expected performance level of ACSF level 4 for CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building)

This course is designed for individuals aiming to work as licensed builders, construction managers, or project supervisors within residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.
Training covers advanced building techniques, interpreting and applying building codes and standards, preparing and managing contracts and tenders, developing cost estimates and schedules, supervising on-site operations, and ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety regulations. Students also gain experience in managing teams, liaising with clients and subcontractors, and overseeing projects from conception to completion.

Completion of the general construction induction training program, as specified in the Safe Work Australia Model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.
This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway.
