UEE22020 Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start)

The UEE22020 Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) is a nationally recognised entry-level qualification that provides the foundation skills and knowledge required to begin a career in the electrotechnology industry. This course introduces students to safe work practices, the correct use of electrical tools and equipment, and the basics of solving problems in extra-low voltage (ELV) circuits. Learners will also gain experience in assembling electronic components, laying and terminating cabling, interpreting diagrams and technical drawings, and applying workplace health and safety procedures.

The qualification is designed for students from a wide range of age groups and backgrounds who are seeking to pursue an apprenticeship pathway in electrotechnology, including electrical, refrigeration/air-conditioning, and related fields. It also serves as a pathway into Certificate III trade qualifications, which lead to licensing and employment as an electrician or technician.

UEE22020 Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) supersedes and is equivalent to UEE22011 Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start).

Nominal hours: 320-440 (depending on electives and delivery mode)

Age requirements:

Students must be above 16 years of age.

Most employers and apprenticeship contracts require students to be 18 years or older to apply for an electrical licence on completion.

Academic Requirements:

To enter into the courses delivered at CTA, applicants should have successfully completed Year 10 or equivalent.

Mature age applicants without formal education may be considered based on relevant work experience and demonstrated capacity to meet course requirements. Such learners will be accessed for possible RPL opportunities and their course duration and volume of learning will be adjusted accordingly, if any RPL is granted.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy test (LLN):

Students undertaking this course at CTA must possess sound Numeracy skills since it requires them to do calculations or any other course related work. To determine this, all students wanting to study with us are required to undertake the LLN Test prior to the commencement of the course.  Based on the test outcome, students may be identified as requiring external support services.

The LLN test will be conducted on campus by using an ACSF mapped online LLN assessment tool - LLN Robot.

Students are asked to undertake a language, literacy and numeracy test (LLN) test and achieve expected performance level of ACSF level 2 for UEE22020 – Certificate II in Electrotechnology Electrician,

Mode of Delivery:

Classroom based Face to Face theory and practical at Brunswick campus.

Course Information

All training programs provided by Company are registered under nationally endorsed training packages. These training programs are competency based which means that training and assessment focus on the development and recognition of a person’s ability to apply relevant knowledge and skills to perform workplace tasks to a specified standard.

In order to achieve this qualification, students must complete a total of 12 units of competency consisting of 10 core units and 2 elective units.

  • CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
  • HLTAID001 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • UEECD0007 – Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
  • UEECD0009 – Carry out routine work activities in an energy sector environment
  • UEECD0021 – Identify and select components, accessories and materials for energy sector work activities
  • UEECD0022 – Prepare and connect electrical/electronic apparatus and circuits
  • UEECD0025 – Lay wiring/cabling and terminate accessories for extra-low voltage (ELV) circuits
  • UEECD0026 – Solve problems in extra-low voltage (ELV) single path circuits
  • UEECD0052 – Document and apply measures to control WHS risks associated with electrotechnology work
  • UEECO0002 – Maintain documentation

Elective Units (examples – may vary by provider)

  • UEECD0016 – Document and apply measures to control OHS risks associated with electrotechnology work
  • UEECD0020 – Fix and secure electrotechnology equipment
  • UEEAS0001 – Assemble electronic components
  • UEEIC0001 – Operate digital control systems

Electives are chosen by the training provider to reflect industry needs and learner pathways into apprenticeships.

UEE30820 – Certificate II in Electrotechnology Electrician (Career Start)

Completion of the general construction induction training program, as specified in the Safe Work Australia Model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway.
