The Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pre-apprenticeship) will prepare graduates with the skills and knowledge for entry into an apprenticeship (Certificate III trade qualification) in one of the various sectors of the building and construction industry. The outcome of the Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pre-apprenticeship) does not meet the requirements for a qualified tradesperson.
This course is designed specifically for those from a range of age groups and backgrounds interested in obtaining employment as an apprentice in building and construction. Successful course graduates would continue into the nationally endorsed Certificate III qualifications relevant to their chosen trade stream (for example, carpentry, bricklaying, wall and floor tiling, painting and decorating, solid plastering, stonemasonry, or joinery).
This allows for employment as an apprentice in the domestic or commercial/industrial construction sectors.
22614VIC Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pre-apprenticeship) supersedes and is equivalent to 22338VIC Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pre-apprenticeship).

In order to achieve this qualification, students must complete the following 34 units of competencies which include a 27 core unit, plus 7 elective units.
Students must be above 16 years of age.
To enter into the courses delivered at CTA, applicants should have successfully completed Year 10 or Year 11 equivalent.

Mature age applicants without formal education may be considered based on relevant work experience and demonstrated capacity to meet course requirements. Such learners will be accessed for possible RPL opportunities and their course duration and volume of learning will be adjusted accordingly, if any RPL is granted.
Students undertaking this course at CTA must possess sound Numeracy skills since it requires them to do calculations or any other course related work. To determine this, all students wanting to study with us are required to undertake the LLN Test prior to the commencement of the course. Based on the test outcome, students may be identified as requiring external support services.
The LLN test will be conducted on campus by using an ACSF mapped online LLN assessment tool - LLN Robot.
Students are asked to undertake a language, literacy and numeracy test (LLN) test and achieve expected performance level of ACSF level 2 for 2614VIC Building and Construction (Pre-apprenticeship)

These training programs are competency based which means that training and assessment focus on the development and recognition of a person’s ability to apply relevant knowledge and skills to perform workplace tasks to a specified standard.
The specific skills and knowledge required for particular activities are set out in Units of Competency which can be grouped together to formulate the completion of a nationally recognised qualification.

The Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pre-apprenticeship) is an entry-level qualification designed to provide foundational knowledge and practical skills in building and construction. It prepares learners for an apprenticeship in a chosen trade stream such as carpentry, bricklaying, painting and decorating, wall and floor tiling, solid plastering, joinery, or stonemasonry. Completion of the general construction induction training program, as specified in the Safe Work Australia Model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.
This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway.
