UEE30820 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician is the nationally recognised trade qualification that provides the skills and knowledge required to work as a licensed electrician. This course covers the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment in residential, commercial, and industrial environments. Training includes working safely with electricity, using electrical tools and equipment, solving problems in low-voltage AC and DC circuits, installing wiring systems, testing and diagnosing faults, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and workplace health and safety requirements.
This qualification is designed for students undertaking an apprenticeship pathway and combines practical workplace training with structured study. Graduates will be equipped to carry out electrical installation and maintenance work, meet licensing requirements, and apply for registration as an electrician (subject to state and territory regulatory authority approval). UEE30820 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician supersedes and is equivalent to UEE30811 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician.
Nominal hours: 1,200 – 1,500 (depending on electives and delivery mode)
In order to achieve this qualification, students must complete 10 core units and 2 elective units (total of 12 units of competency)
Students must be above 16 years of age.
Most employers and apprenticeship contracts require students to be 18 years or older to apply for an electrical licence on completion.
To enter into the courses delivered at CTA, applicants should have successfully completed Year 10 or Year 11 equivalent. Applicants are expected to have successfully completed at least Year 10 equivalent with passes in English, Mathematics, and Science.

Mature age applicants without formal education may be considered based on relevant work experience and demonstrated capacity to meet course requirements. Such learners will be accessed for possible RPL opportunities and their course duration and volume of learning will be adjusted accordingly, if any RPL is granted.
Students undertaking this course at CTA must possess sound Numeracy skills since it requires them to do calculations or any other course related work. To determine this, all students wanting to study with us are required to undertake the LLN Test prior to the commencement of the course. Based on the test outcome, students may be identified as requiring external support services.
The LLN test will be conducted on campus by using an ACSF mapped online LLN assessment tool - LLN Robot.
Students are asked to undertake a language, literacy and numeracy test (LLN) test and achieve expected performance level of ACSF level 3 or 4 for UEE30820 – Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician,
Classroom based Face to Face theory and practical at Brunswick campus.

These training programs are competency based which means that training and assessment focus on the development and recognition of a person’s ability to apply relevant knowledge and skills to perform workplace tasks to a specified standard.

Completion of the general construction induction training program, as specified in the Safe Work Australia Model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.
